Cat Heads

The cover of Warriors: Tigerstar and Sasha has been put up on Amazon.com. It's exciting to see this first book come out but it's strange to read the comments made by fans. I know that since no one knows the story, they can only comment on the art. More than one reader commented on how Sasha's head looked weird. I agree! But I won't take the blame because my art was retouched by Tokyopop or Harper Collins or maybe both. Here is a before and after.

Weird! I wonder who thought it would be a good idea to round out the cat's head? Someone who's never seen a cat?

They also removed the eyebrows and eye whiskers, which help to give the face expression and personality. It seems like someone wanted to cute-ify the illustration, and ended up sucking the life out of the drawing.

Although I agree that HarperCollins/Tokyopop/whatever shouldn't have edited the image, I adore all of the art--it really does the series justice, unlike most of the other manga. When I raid the local Barnes and Noble on 7/2, I'll be just as eager to grab Into the Woods off the shelf as I will Eclipse. =)

I think some editor that can't draw had to "re-draw" the image to his/her liking. Marc is right in that it zombified the cat's face.

And thank you Flametail for buying the book! I would like to hear your comments on it!

Wow, I cannot believe they can do that to your final artwork! That is not cool at all. Your cat was much better looking.

I love the sketch, I adore the image you presented but I'm not fond of the generic image that they printed. Why is it that publishers and editors always believe they know better than the creator?

Not good, not good at all.

When the book is out I'll be hunting it down -I can't wait!

Just so everyone knows, the book is supposed to be out Sept. 2. Thanks for your support!

Yeah, what's up with the messin' with your cat head? I agree that it was NOT an improvement! I've been watching this project of your with interest, and I'll be sure to check it out when it hits
