Art Board

As everyone else goes 100% digital, I am still using pencil, ink, erasers and opaque correction fluid. So when I visit the art supply store, I try the newest materials available. I recently bought a Canson Paper product called 'Manga Art Boards'.
They've been focusing in on the comic book crowd and I thought I would give it a try. I did everything I that I would usually do when I draw a page of comic book art. I thought it was pretty good paper.

Very nice! If you get a moment, you should study some Bob Kline pages I recently posted. Not only was he old-school, he would even use q-tips, toothpicks, anything he could dip in ink!

A lot of my teachers have gone digital and I think it's cool and all, but I still draw by hand and as you seen before I'm still learning how to ink well. But this is really cool and I'll keep it in mind. And I'll check out Bob Kline.

I am being torn at the moment on whether to go all digital on a current project or traditional as it would mean i was able to work outside during the coming summer.....oh,my,what troubles...

May I ask what size of board you used here.

Canson Art Board, 10x14.25 and you should just go all digital with you project. It's the future!

What I like about comics is that it's still one of the domains where many artists work mainly in traditional media. In my opinion it's not the tools you use that matters, but rather the finished product. I prefer paper and ink, myself, but I see nothing wrong with using a Wacom or Cintiq, etc., as long as it looks good in the end.

Lately I've been thinking of busting out my old Canson boards. I got a pack a couple years ago for about $3 and only used a couple pages. I noticed the paper handled a Hunt 102 REALLY well, even better than the Strathmore I was using.

Speaking of paper, have you ever checked out Eon boards?

No Ian, I do not know about Eon Boards! I will check my nearest art store and give them a try. I see a few comic artists inking digitally and it looks bad. Sloppy even. Young editors are becoming used to seeing art on a computer screen and may miss some stuff that an older editor may have shot down. I'll probably go all digital soon. It will make my job easier.
