Quaker Makeover

A subtle change with the iconic Quaker oats man. I think it's dopey. If they wanted to change him, just find another model for him. Read the article

Art Board

As everyone else goes 100% digital, I am still using pencil, ink, erasers and opaque correction fluid. So when I visit the art supply store, I try the newest materials available. I recently bought a Canson Paper product called 'Manga Art Boards'.
They've been focusing in on the comic book crowd and I thought I would give it a try. I did everything I that I would usually do when I draw a page of comic book art. I thought it was pretty good paper.

Art by Jon Bogdanove

I used to do background inks for Al Milgrom maybe 20 years ago and he inked this issue of X-Terminators. I was able to make copies of the pencils with and without lettering. Joe Rosen did it in the old-school way with a lettering guide. I like how Bogdanove wrote his own dialog in the pencils!

Art by Alex Ross

When I worked for Marvel way back when, I would love to visit with the editors there and chew the fat. I was really friendly with the editor of a then yet-to-be-published book called Marvels and I fell in love with the painted pages! So much work, expertly done! There were copies of the pencils as well. As the book hit the stands, I pulled the pencil copies out of the trash. Looking at Alex's art got me interested in painting in gouache and watercolor. I really enjoy his work!
