Walking the Streets of NYC

I brought my camera with me on a recent trip to New York City. In addition to spending time with friends, enjoying great meals and walking around the city with my fiance, I took some snapshots. This is the Hearst Building in a photo I took in 1985 with my old fashioned Olympus SLR and the recent photo taken in February. I took a lot of reference photos in the 1980s.
It looks like there has been a renovation in the 25 years between photos!

Marvel Mania Restaurant!

More than 10 years ago, my friends and I went to a new restaurant fashioned after Marvel Comics characters. We were all former Marvel Comics Staffers and we wondered what this new place would look like. If Planet Hollywood could mine movie history, then this place could succeed! Right? Well, it didn't.
The eatery was at Universal City and I was able to bring my camera. Rob Tokar, Steve Buccellato, Marc Siry and myself shared studio space in Marina Del Rey and we all drove up together. We hung out with Dana Moreshead who was associated with the place somehow. I don't remember the details, but the event was kinda okay. Nice decor but the menu was too kitchy. Not for me. At least the photos survive!

My NYC Walking Tour!

In 1990 when I lived in New York, I grabbed a Polaroid camera and brought it into town. My walk from the subway to Marvel Comics took me through Madison Square Park, close to the Flatiron Building. I took a few snapshots while walking back then.
I retraced my steps while in NYC last week and I am surprised at the changes 19 years later.

Old Photo!

My involvement with Facebook has inspired me to dig out many old photos and share them with people I have not seen in years and years. This picture is me back in June 1984. A comic convention in Manhattan. I am posting a bunch of photos from my High School days on Facebook.

Hey kids! Let's Jazzercise!

This photo has to be ten years old. The jazzercise people hired the Mad Science Media people to provide content for their new Cyberstretch CD-ROM! It must have been 10 years if it was a CD-ROM. Find out more about Cyberstretch HERE.

We all look so young. That was me in my Do-rag period.

Halloween Past

I loved to dress up for Halloween! Back in NYC, I used to make the rounds in Joker make-up. I had a complete purple tuxedo at one point, but I tossed it out when it got stinky. In these photos, I have on the whiteface but I was too lazy to put on the suit.
Now I plan on going to the West Hollywood parade. The difference between the NYC Parade and the LA parade is the weather! Look for me there.I remember wearing the orange vest. It was 3 sizes too small and it hurt to inhale.

Convention Photo

This is a snapshot from The Mid-Ohio Con! Thanksgiving of Last year. It was such a good show with cool people. This shot was taken by a reporter for CBG and it's taken a while for him to forward this photo. I hope to go back to Ohio this year!

Halloween Party

Who is that guy in the Joker costume? What is going on? This is a polaroid from a Marvel Comics Halloween party!. I think it might have been around 1993. I don't know what goes on in the Marvel bullpen these days, but back then you didn't need much of an excuse to throw a party. I was a freelance inker in New York at that time and this photo has some great memories attached to it!

I was dressed head to toe as the Joker and I was entered in the costume contest. There were other contests, like the Candy Corn, Mouth stuffing contest shown here. The contestant who could stuff his mouth with candy corn without barfing would win!
I had the biggest mouth so I won. Assisting me in my victory was my friend Laurie. It was all great fun. I wonder...Is the Marvel Bullpen this much fun today?

A photo from the archives

I found myself flipping through my old box of photos and found this little gem. I took this shot after landing in Sydney, Australia in 1994. The pilot and the staff was so friendly, I asked if I could take a quick shot of myself in the pilot seat. The Co-pilot's seat was empty and the first pilot gave me his hat to wear. I think I wanted the shot for reference. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I have the shot! Of course, this photo would be impossible today.
