I found this Tombow pen at the art store and thought I'd give it a try. I liked it! It has a small, sharp point that holds up to repeated use without shredding. The grey ink tip on the opposite end did not bleed into the black ink. I have been thinking about doing the 24 hour comics challenge, and if I do, I would do it with this pen. I would buy a bunch, but I would use this pen!

'Jersey Boys' Ten years gone!
Jersey Boys won the Tony for best Broadway Musical ten years ago! What a great success and it has played all over the world. I am so happy that I was a part of it as the Storyboard artist!

More Pencils and I Ink Myself!
This is more pencil art that I drew maybe six or seven years ago.
I decided to take a try at inking it recently. I simplified the BG on the 3rd panel and opened up the
expression of the girl in the 6th panel. Maybe I should color it as well.

Twenty years ago this week
I moved out to LA from NYC twenty years ago and settled myself. I drove myself out and arrived on the 15th. Hooray me!

My Review
I had a rare chance to watch a movie at the cinema today. That was Batman V Superman. I left the movie feeling sad and unsatisfied. Dark, 'Matrix' style cinematography, a twitchy, pointless Lex Luthor and a story that included the destruction of half of Gotham City left me cold. So much violence and not much to look forward to.
I give this movie a thumbs down!

My Tiny Sketchbook
I picked up a small animation pad not too long ago. I wanted to see how drawing at 3 by 5 would work. Simple lines and quick brush seems to work at this size.

Pencils By Alex Ross
I first saw Alex Ross' art when I freelanced at Marvel in the 90s. I would swing by the Editors office (my friend Marcus) and go through is files. Incredible paintings! And even more, copies of his pencils. After the four issue series 'Marvels' hit the stands, I was able to get a hold of the pencils.
They were light copies that I am able to scan darker. Here are a few pages from the second issue.

Time to buy a Refrigerator!
If you want to sell a consumer a kitchen appliance, it's best to put a family in the kitchen. The family starts the day in the kitchen and it's the center of the home. Take a look at these three Ads from different companies.
Moms, dads, children and your fridge. Your appliance is a part of the family!

Another DrinkyDraw Event!
We had another SketchFest this past Thursday on West Adams! This time the theme was Mad Max.
Take a look at a few of my quick sketches.

My SECRET DEFENDERS issues reprinted!
There was a point on my run of Secret Defenders, where the story focused on Marvel villains instead of heroes. Instead of Dr. Strange calling the shots, Thanos was the boss of a group of powerful beings. I did the inking on issues 12 to 14 of Secret Defenders with pencils by Tom Grindberg.
You will find those stories and another that I inked over Grindberg in this Trade Paperback!

Draw From Life
There was a Drinky draw event last night in West Adams! The regular venue (a bowling alley) was undergoing a renovation, so we did something different. Namely, we got a model and started drawing. The theme was Barbarella.
The 2 minute sketches kicked my bottom, but I think I did better with the 5 minute and longer sketches.

Art by Jack Kirby
Time is running out to see the Jack Kirby exhibit at California State University Northridge! My friend Steve and I drove to the Art gallery to check out 'Comic book apocalypse: The Graphic world of Jack Kirby'. I am a big fan of The King, so I was eager to see his originals.
The exhibit covered his career by decade and comic company. No art from his Animation jobs, but covered all the creative comic achievements. Fantastic Four, Thor, New Gods, Kamandi and much more.

My SHIELD Issues reprinted!
This volume reprints 10 issues that I worked on. It was fun inking over Wyman, Hoover and Stiner, but I would say that Ernie Stiner was the bigger challenge. His art was extra tight with no room for improvisation. He was a really nice guy and his time on the book was short. As for me, I would stay as the inker until issue 47. I would work with the excellent John Heebink. More on that later.
